Web design — vetted & managed

Hire web designers in India
websites that convert

A pretty site and a site that turns visitors into customers are not always the same thing. Tell us what you are building, whether that's a marketing site, a landing page, a redesign, or a storefront, and we put two or three designers in front of you who already ship that exact kind of work in Figma, WordPress, Webflow, or Shopify.

What a web designer actually does

A web designer decides how your site looks, reads, and moves — the layout, the type, the imagery, and the path a visitor takes from landing on a page to doing what you want them to do. That is a narrower job than it sounds. A web designer is not a brand designer sketching a logo, and not always a developer who ships code. Their output is usually a set of Figma screens or a built page, and their job is done well when someone lands on the page and knows exactly what to do next without thinking about it.

Good web design earns its keep in numbers you can measure: time on page, scroll depth, and the one that actually pays the bills, conversion rate. A designer who only cares about how a page looks in a screenshot is doing half the job. The other half is knowing why a visitor bounces at the pricing section, why a form gets abandoned at field four, and what to change about the layout to fix it. That is the skill we screen hardest for.

Visual design

Colour, type, imagery, and layout that reads as your brand, not a generic template pulled off a marketplace.

Responsive layouts

A design that holds up on a 390px phone screen and a 1440px desktop monitor without breaking or feeling like two different sites.

Landing pages

A single, focused page built around one offer and one action, usually the page that does the most work per visitor a designer touches.

Conversion-focused design

Layout, copy hierarchy, and calls to action arranged to move a visitor toward a signup, a demo, or a purchase.

Brand-to-web translation

Taking a logo, a colour palette, and a style guide and turning it into a working site that still feels like the brand.

Design-to-code handoff

Clean, documented Figma files or, on our teams, a designer who builds the page themselves so nothing gets lost in translation.

Web designer vs UI/UX designer vs web developer — what's the actual difference?

These three titles get used almost interchangeably in job posts, and that causes real mis-hires. Here is the line between them, in plain terms.

Web designer

Owns how a website looks and reads — page layout, visual hierarchy, typography, and imagery. Works mostly in websites: marketing sites, landing pages, e-commerce storefronts. The role this page is about.

UI/UX designer

Works a layer up — user research, information architecture, flows, and interaction patterns, across web and app alike. Cares more about whether the right screen exists than what colour it is. See UI/UX designers.

Web developer

Takes the design and builds it — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or a WordPress, Webflow, or Shopify build that makes the design actually work in a browser. See frontend engineers.

In practice, a lot of people do two of these jobs at once. Plenty of our web designers also build in WordPress or Webflow, which collapses the design and the developer role into one hire and removes a handoff that often waters a design down. If your brief is closer to "figure out the user flow for a new product," you want a UI/UX designer. If it is "make our website look and convert better," you want the web designer this page describes. If the design already exists and you just need it built, you want a developer. Not sure which one fits? Tell Alex what you are trying to fix and we will point you at the right page.

Tools and platforms our web designers work in

Every designer we place is fluent in Figma for the design work itself, and most can also build in one or more of the platforms below. Tell us your stack and we match accordingly.

Figma

The default design and prototyping tool for every designer we place — wireframes, high-fidelity screens, and a component library your team can keep reusing.

WordPress

Still the most common CMS on the web. Designers who build in WordPress work in Elementor, a block theme, or a custom theme, depending what your site already runs on.

Webflow

The pick for teams who want design-grade control without a developer on every change. Popular for marketing sites and landing pages that need to move fast.

Shopify

For storefronts. Designers here work inside Shopify's theme system, or hand off to a Shopify developer for custom sections and app integrations.

Why hire web designers in India

The short version: the same economics that make India the default choice for engineering hold for design, and the design talent has caught up fast. Here is the case in numbers.

$38,400/yr
India senior designer cost vs a $129,000 US senior average
174
Fortune 500 firms run engineering and design centers in India
~55–70%
of your local design budget saved on comparable work
~13%
attrition at top IT firms in FY25, down from ~23% two years earlier

The cost math, spelled out

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics tracks web developers and digital designers as one combined category, with a median of $98,090 a year as of May 2024. Glassdoor's 2026 figures put the average web designer salary at $85,460 a year, and a senior web designer averages $129,000. An India senior on our books runs about $3,200 a month, near $38,400 a year — the same work, for 55 to 70 percent less than any of those US benchmarks, depending which one you compare against.

Scale it to a small team and the gap compounds. A blended five-designer team through us runs about $11,000 a month, or $132,000 a year. Five designers hired locally at the Glassdoor average would run near $35,600 a month, or $427,000 a year. That is close to $300,000 a year you keep, and most of the founders and marketing leads we work with put it straight back into more pages, more testing, or a developer to build what the designers ship.

Design talent that has caught up to the engineering pool

India's software talent pool runs 4.3 to 5.8 million developers, roughly one in eight of every developer on earth, and design has ridden the same wave. UX and product design roles are now among the fastest-growing job categories in Indian tech, and the same Global Capability Centers that pulled in Microsoft, JPMorgan, and Walmart's engineering teams are now standing up dedicated design teams in Pune and Hyderabad rather than outsourcing the visuals after the fact. Ten years ago "web design" work sent offshore usually meant a template swap. Today it means a designer who has shipped real product for a real brand, working next to the engineers who built the system it lives on.

Quality that is proven, not assumed

The worry with any low rate is always a quality ceiling, and the evidence runs the other way. 174 of the Fortune Global 500 run 390-plus engineering and design centers in India, employing more than 950,000 people, and India holds the world's highest concentration of CMMI Level 5 and ISO 27001 certified firms. A designer coming out of that ecosystem has usually shipped work that had to hold up under real scrutiny: a product manager, a brand team, an actual launch, not a portfolio piece built to look good in a case study.

A time-zone overlap that works, and English by default

India runs on IST, UTC+5:30. Put a designer on an 11 AM to 8 PM IST schedule and a US-Eastern team gets about 2.5 hours of live overlap every morning, enough for a real design review with feedback in the room, not just comments left on a Figma file overnight. With the UK it is closer to 4.5 hours. The hours outside that window work in your favour: you leave notes at the end of your day, and revised screens are usually waiting when you log back on. English is the language design work happens in here by default — briefs, comments on Figma, and client calls, all without translation in either direction.

What our web designers actually deliver

To make this concrete, here is the kind of work our designers ship day to day, across six common use cases.

Marketing websites

A full company site (home, product, pricing, about) designed to explain what you do and move a visitor toward a demo or a signup, rather than just look good in a screenshot.

Landing pages

A single page built around one offer, usually for a paid campaign, where every element on the page exists to move a visitor toward one specific action.

Website redesigns

Your existing site, rebuilt around what is actually converting and what isn't, using analytics and session recordings instead of a fresh coat of paint over the same problems.

E-commerce storefronts

Product pages, category browsing, and checkout flow designed to reduce cart abandonment, usually in Shopify or WooCommerce.

Brand-to-web translation

Taking an existing brand identity (logo, palette, type) and building a site that reads as that brand on every page, not just the homepage.

CRO-focused redesign

Targeted changes to specific pages, usually pricing, signup, or checkout, based on where visitors actually drop off and aimed at moving one number: conversion rate.

Hire by seniority — from junior to design lead

Seniority in design maps less to years and more to how much of the problem a person can own without a brief spelled out for them. Here is what each level takes off your plate, with an indicative all-in monthly figure.

A junior designer executes a page from a clear reference or wireframe. A senior designer figures out what the page should even be, then builds it. Most teams that come to us for a full site end up with one senior or lead to set the direction and a mid-level to carry the volume of pages — a junior alone on a whole site usually means several rounds of revisions before it lands.

Level What they own From
Junior / Associate Executes clean, well-briefed pages from a wireframe or reference. Solid on layout and type, still building judgement on what to do without one. Good extra hands under a senior. Around $18 an hour, all in. $1,800/mo
Mid-level Owns a page or a small site end to end from a loose brief, such as a home page, a landing page, or a redesign of one section, without much hand-holding. $2,500/mo
Senior Owns the whole site's design, sets the visual system, makes the conversion calls, and reviews everyone else's work against it. Roughly $35 an hour. $3,200/mo
Design lead Owns the design direction across a whole product or brand, briefs and reviews other designers, and is accountable for how the work performs, not just how it looks. Near $50 an hour. $4,500/mo

Figures are all-inclusive — salary, payroll, compliance, and equipment, no recruitment or visa fee on top. Want the full breakdown or your own numbers? See the rate card or run the cost calculator.

You manage them, we employ them

The designer works to your brief, in your tools, on your timeline — you run the review, you sign off on the direction. On paper, they are on our books. We are their legal employer in India, so payroll, tax, statutory benefits, laptops, and leave are our problem, not yours. You never open an Indian entity or touch local labour law.

That split is the whole point of a managed hire over a freelancer. You get someone who shows up every day like a full-time designer, with none of the setup, paperwork, or exit risk of actually employing someone in another country. If the fit isn't right, you tell us, and we replace them.

How building a team in India works

You own

  • The brief and the brand direction
  • Review and sign-off on every page
  • Priorities and the site map
  • The interview and final yes

We own

  • Payroll and taxes
  • Benefits and leave
  • Hardware and HR
  • Free replacement if it slips

One designer, or a full design and dev squad?

Both work. It comes down to whether you already have a site and just need it improved, or you are starting from a blank page and need the whole thing built.

Add one designer

Slot a designer into work you already have moving — new landing pages, a redesign of your pricing page, ongoing design support for a marketing team. They work in your tools and report to your lead.

The honest answers to the usual worries

If you have hired design offshore before, or heard the horror stories, you have questions. Here are the real ones, answered straight.

"It'll look generic, like a template."

That risk is real with an unvetted freelancer, and it is exactly what our screen is built to catch. We look for a real, shipped portfolio — sites and products that had to survive a launch and a brand team, not a personal project built to look good on Dribbble. Fewer than one in twenty applicants gets through, and you still see the shortlist and their actual work before anyone starts.

"Communication and feedback loops will be a mess."

English is the working language of Indian design and engineering teams by default — briefs, Figma comments, and calls happen in it without translation. We also screen for how clearly someone explains a design decision, because a designer who can't walk you through why a layout works is hard to collaborate with remotely, no matter how good the pixels are.

"The time zone will slow every review down."

A shifted 11 AM to 8 PM IST schedule gives roughly 2.5 hours of live overlap with US-Eastern and about 4.5 with the UK — enough for a real review conversation instead of only async comments. The rest of the gap works for you: leave notes at the end of your day and revised screens are usually ready the next morning.

"Attrition means I'll lose my designer mid-project."

Attrition at India's top IT firms has fallen from about 23 percent in FY22-23 to 13 percent in FY25. A managed model adds another layer of protection on top of that: if someone does leave, we backfill and hand over notes, briefs, and files so the project keeps moving instead of restarting.

"I'll lose the design files or the rights to them."

Every engagement runs on a work-for-hire agreement with an IP-assignment clause, so the Figma files, the built pages, and every asset belong to you from the first draft, backed by an NDA and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. Nothing sits locked in someone else's account.

How vetting and onboarding works

The same four-stage screen for every designer, whatever the platform or level. Fewer than one in twenty gets through it.

1

Portfolio review

We look at real, shipped work — sites that launched for a real brand, not concept pieces built to look good in isolation.

2

Design task

A short exercise close to your actual work — a landing page or a redesign brief, not a generic puzzle.

3

Live design review

One of our senior designers walks through the task with them and probes the reasoning behind the layout choices.

4

Communication fit

English, remote-first habits, and how clearly they explain a decision — because a great eye that can't explain itself is hard to work with remotely.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire a web designer in India?

A junior web designer starts around $1,800 a month, a mid-level around $2,500, a senior around $3,200, and a design lead around $4,500. Those figures are all-in: salary, payroll, compliance, and equipment, with no separate recruitment or visa fee stacked on top. A blended team of five designers runs near $11,000 a month.

How much can I actually save hiring a web designer in India instead of locally?

Somewhere between 55 and 70 percent, depending what you compare against. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median for web developers and digital designers at $98,090 a year, Glassdoor's 2026 figures put the average web designer salary at $85,460, and a senior US web designer averages $129,000. An India senior on our books runs about $38,400 a year, doing comparable work at a fraction of any of those numbers.

What is the difference between a web designer, a UI/UX designer, and a web developer?

A web designer shapes how a website looks and reads: layout, typography, imagery, and the page-by-page experience of a site. A UI/UX designer works one layer up, on the research, flows, and interaction patterns behind any digital product, web or app. A web developer takes the design and builds it — the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, or the WordPress and Webflow build, that makes the design work in a browser. Plenty of people do two of these at once, but the three questions they answer are genuinely different.

Do web designers in India also code, or just design?

It depends who you hire. Some of our designers work purely in Figma and hand a polished file to a developer. Others build what they design directly in WordPress, Webflow, or Shopify, so there is no handoff at all. Tell us which you want and we match accordingly — a lot of clients prefer the second, because a design that never has to survive a handoff rarely gets watered down in the build.

Which tools and platforms do your web designers work in?

Figma for design and prototyping, and WordPress, Webflow, or Shopify for the build, depending on your stack. Most also work comfortably in Elementor or a component library if your site already runs on one. If you use something less common, tell us — the tool matters less than whether the designer has actually shipped real sites in it before.

Is the design quality good enough for a real brand, not a template site?

Yes. India is home to design teams inside 174 of the Fortune Global 500's engineering centers, and product and UX hiring inside those centers has grown fast enough that recruiters now call it one of the country's fastest-growing tech disciplines. The designers we place have portfolios of shipped, real-brand work, not stock templates, and fewer than one in twenty applicants clears our screen.

How fast can a web designer start?

Most roles are matched within a few days, and your designer is usually live on the project within two to three weeks of you picking them. A niche platform or a very specific brand aesthetic can add a little time to the shortlist, and we will tell you the realistic timeline before you commit to anyone.

Do the designers work in my time zone?

Yes. On a shifted 11 AM to 8 PM IST schedule, your designer gets about 2.5 hours of live overlap with US-Eastern each day and roughly 4.5 hours with the UK, enough for a real design review and feedback loop. Work handed off at your end of day is usually ready for review the next morning.

Who owns the designs and files once the project is done?

You do. Every engagement runs on a work-for-hire agreement with an IP-assignment clause, so the Figma files, the built site, and every asset in between belong to you, not us and not the designer. That is backed by an NDA and by India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023.

Can I hire one designer, or a full design and dev squad?

Both. Bring on one designer to fill a gap next to your existing team, or a squad, a designer, a front-end developer, and a lead, that takes a site from brief to launch on its own. There is no minimum team size, and you can add people as the work grows.
