What a Salesforce developer actually does

A Salesforce developer writes and maintains the code layer of your org, the part that starts where point-and-click configuration stops. That means Apex, Salesforce's server-side language, for the business logic too complex for a Flow. It means Lightning Web Components, the modern JavaScript framework Salesforce builds its own interface on, for custom screens and record-page widgets your users actually touch. Four pieces of work come up on almost every engagement. Apex triggers fire when a record is created, updated, or deleted, and they handle logic a validation rule can't, things like cross-object updates, callouts to another system, or anything that needs a loop. Lightning Web Components replace the old Visualforce pages and Aura components with something closer to plain JavaScript, and they're what a developer reaches for when a Flow's screen elements aren't flexible enough for the interaction you need. Flows themselves sit on the line between admin and developer work — a developer often builds the invocable Apex action a complex Flow calls out to, even if an admin owns the Flow. Platform Developer I (PD1)

The entry credential. Confirms someone can write and test Apex, build a basic Lightning Web Component, and understands the data model and security basics. Table stakes — every developer we place has this or the equivalent hands-on experience.

Platform Developer II (PD2)

The harder one. It requires passing hands-on superbadges, not just a multiple-choice exam, and it tests integration patterns, asynchronous Apex, and design trade-offs under governor limits. Platform App Builder

JavaScript Developer I
